The Professor - Ch. 17.3

I need to get laid, Baron decided, closing his office door behind him.

The pressure of not having Aurelia, of not being able to make love to her, to even kiss her, had finally become too much for him. He was almost willing to pay for sex right about now. But then again, why should he pay for something that he could get for free?

Baron was a handsome man. Women flocked to him everyday. And there was no bar that he couldn’t go into and come out with a suitable one-night-stand if he wanted to.

But why go to a bar when there was a willing woman right in the next office?

Baron quickly crossed Rhoda off the list when he remembered how stalker-ish she was.

Jordin, he mused, referencing yet another willing female as he put his briefcase down on the floor beside his desk and settled into his chair.

Jordin didn’t have stalker tendencies. She was simply shallow, which didn’t necessarily mean that she was a washout in bed. Megan had been shallow, too, and she’d been great in bed. Plus, just last night Jordin called and expressed her desire to see him again. All of him.

Baron smiled, got on his cell phone and called Jordin. Within a few short minutes he had set up a romantic date with her. Jordin would come to Baron’s house tonight where he would cook dinner for her, entertain her with his charm, and then hopefully make love to her. Maybe then he could forget about Aurelia.

I hope, Baron thought, yearning for her even now as quick flashes of that dance routine bombarded his mind. Like a Texas oil rig, he wanted to drill as deep as he could get within Aurelia’s field. Instead Jordin would get that level of fervent loving tonight.

Suddenly Baron’s office phone rang. It was Liam Thornton, the head of Alcove’s crime lab and also a childhood friend of his. Liam was also Aurelia’s boss. It was she that he was calling about today.

Baron promptly ended his cell phone call, bidding Jordin a quick and yet warm goodbye. Then he took a deep breath and blew it out slowly before returning to his office phone. “Now what was it you wanted to say about Aurelia?” he asked of his friend.

“I just wanted to call and tell you thanks again for recommending her to me. That girl is sharp as a tack and she works hard,” Liam praised, unaware of his poor timing.

“I’m glad she’s working out so well.” Baron’s heart swelled with pride, causing the pain of not having Aurelia to lessen for the moment.

“She’s working out better than well,” Liam replied. “Since Aurelia came on board we’re solving more cases than ever and employee morale is at an all time high. Everybody likes her. And those are just a few of the reasons I don’t mind giving her time off when she needs it.”

“Does Aurelia ask for a lot of time off?” Baron asked for more reasons than one. “With her being young, single, and attractive, I imagine she wants the occasional Friday or Saturday night off to date.”

“So far Aurelia has only asked for a couple of hours off on Saturdays. And even then, its to work at a local soup kitchen,” Liam shared.

Baron’s eyes bucked. “Aurelia works at a soup kitchen?” How special can this woman be?

“Yes, faithfully every Saturday, usually from noon to 2pm. Every now and then she’ll come in two hours late after helping the soup kitchen with their breakfast rush. I can only hope my own daughter grows up to be as hardworking and unselfish as Aurelia.” Liam sighed with exasperation and added, “Right now Miley is in her gimme stage. Gimme this and gimme that. She wants everything she sees.”

Baron chuckled. “She’s only five, Liam. Miley will probably grow out of her selfish stage soon enough.”

“Did Earl ever grow out of his?” Liam asked, having grown up right next door to the Weaver boys in Bel Air. One of his older sisters had even dated Earl for all of two weeks before his arrogance drove her away.

“Unfortunately, no.” Baron laughed harder. “So start praying now and never stop. My mother is still praying for Earl. Uncle Miguel is, too, and not just because he’s a priest either.”

Liam roared with laughter.

The two men spent the rest of the conversation catching up on each other’s families after that. It was only after Baron hung up the phone that his depression about Aurelia returned. It returned with a vengeance, too, causing him to lose his appetite for the rest of the day. All of his appetites.

  1. About to take a break. I'm hungry and need to rest my eyes and fingers a bit. Plus Chapter 18 is real emotional (at least it was for me) and I need to be in a fresher mindset to deal with it.

I'll try to post more around 11pm or 12 midnight.
