The Professor - Ch. 10.2

After his last meeting, Baron gathered a few things from his office and finally trudged to his car. Though his mind was drooping with fatigue from the long day he’d had, his heart was light and upbeat. He was in love. Love made everything better.

Even the dank, overcast night didn’t really bother him. In Baron’s eyes, the sky was starry and clear. Better yet, it was as if the sun was shining brighter than the well-lit parking lot behind the science building.

Suddenly Baron’s mood darkened. Adrenaline rushed through his veins. His feet seemed to speed up instinctively and head towards that sound.

What sound?

The sound of a woman being abused by a man in the dark alley in between the buildings.

“Please don’t hit me anymore,” the woman whimpered, sounding like a helpless child.

“Do as I say and I won’t,” the man growled out. “Now get on the ground, trick, before I have to school your face with my other hand. On second thought, let me give you a little motivation to obey.” He smacked her again, causing the woman to cry out in pain. “Shut up, trick!” he hissed.

Baron’s legs moved faster. He had to get around that corner before the woman was assaulted even worse.

Take long strides, Professor. Long strides, he coached himself as he sprinted with briefcase in hand. His high school track coach would be so proud of his current time. But would that time be fast enough to save a life tonight?

The sound of wet pavement connecting with the soles of Baron’s boots made it around the building before him and echoed in the alley, causing a chain reaction.

Hearing rapid footsteps approaching, the assailant released his hold on the woman and ran away. By the time Baron made it into the alley, all that was left was a crying female humbled and humiliated on her knees.

“It’s going to be all right,” he soothed, bending to comfort the mystery woman. When she looked up at him with tears streaming down both cheeks, he instantly recognized who she was.

Oh no! Why did it have to be her of all people?

P.S. I understand about that bias thing. I still trip sometimes because the Prez's wife has my middle name and it's now being seen plastered all over the internet. Who would have ever thought there'd be a 'Michelle' in the White House? Tee-hee. That still tickles my soul.
