The Professor - Ch. 7.1

“Sorry it took me so long to return, class. But you’ll be happy to know that I spent my time away from you wisely,” Baron began after reentering the classroom in full professor mode. “I have good news for those who are senior chemistry majors. I just got off the phone with a good friend of mine in Alcove’s crime lab. As it turns out, they are offering a paid internship for their weekend shift.”

Aurelia’s ears instantly perked up, matching the rest of her body, which had perked up as soon as Baron reentered the room. The detailed syllabus she picked up from the stack on his desk earlier was all but forgotten now. Now all she could focus on was this golden opportunity he’d just presented to the class.

Could it be true? Did Aurelia really have a chance to work in a real crime lab…before graduation?

“The pay isn’t all that great, but it’s steady,” Baron continued, slowly scanning the sea of student faces, looking everywhere but at Aurelia. “This job will also give whomever gets it a foot in the door to a crime lab career, which could lead to so many other great career choices.”

“What type of work will be involved, Professor?” Aurelia asked.

Baron smiled, pleased down to his bones that she had shown such prompt interest in the position. He could only hope that she applied for it. Even though she wasn’t the only chemistry major among his students, she did have the highest GPA. That would help her tremendously since his friend at the lab believed in only hiring the best and brightest.

“Mostly indoor work such as analyzing crime scene evidence and testing blood samples and the like. In short, routine stuff. So for those seeking adventure, this might not be the position for you.” Baron chuckled, causing a slue of female students to sigh with infatuation. A few male students rolled their eyes in envy.

Aurelia didn’t sigh or roll her eyes when he smiled. But she did tingle…all the way down to her toes and back up. Baron was just that gorgeous. If the Spanish actor/singer JenCarlos Canela had a twin, Professor Weaver would definitely be it.

Even now Aurelia could recall how Baron’s gorgeous factor increased in the throes of passion. How slick the hairs on his chest got when the sweat of exertion streamed from his pores. How those same hairs felt against her glistening…

Stop!

I can’t do this, Aurelia lamented, convinced that there was no way she could endure four months of this kind of torture. The likelihood of her being able to concentrate for one minute of a two-hour class with Baron was slim to none at this point.

But Aurelia couldn’t drop this class. It was part one of two required courses in her degree plan. Since Baron was the only teacher assigned to the first half, she wouldn’t be able to avoid him. Nor would she be able to graduate on time if she decided to take this class at a later date. A timely graduation was crucial to her family’s prosperity. Thus she had no choice but to stay in this class.

“For those interested in this position, please see me in my office before the day is out. My office hours are listed on your syllabus. Now without further ado, let’s talk forensics,” Baron continued, breaking through Aurelia’s thoughts and tingles as he finally began his instructional time.

Despite her tingles, heated memories, and conflicts about taking this class, Aurelia found that she actually enjoyed Baron’s teaching. Could actually concentrate on the lesson, soaking up every word that was said as if she was SpongeBob Squarepants.

Baron made forensic medicine sound even more interesting than it already was to her. His command of the subject matter impressed her more than his looks, more than his lovemaking. Well…not more than that. But Aurelia was definitely impressed with her new professor on a different level today.
